Here's what happened at our 35th Reunion (May 13-15, 2005). The Class Dinner was held Saturday, May 14th at the Zimmerli Museum. This is an outstanding venue. We met amidst works of fine art, in the thick of the College Avenue campus. Guest appearances were made by Rutgers president Richard McCormick, who talked (among other things) about his plan to turn College Avenue into a greenbelt closed to traffic, and American Studies professor Angus Gillespie, a 32-year faculty member who offered a witty and wry overview of what's occurred at RU since we graduated. Gillespie, in his short talk, helped us see what had changed...and what hadn't in our years away from the campus. The parade uniform: get ready for a surprise. The Class wore tie-dyed shirts, in scarlet and black.
Optional afternoon tours included a wonderful walk through Rutgers Gardens, visits to the university's athletic facilities, and of course many alumni just hung around College Avenue.
The main event however was the chance to renew acquaintances, or meet anew, with old classmates because we all are united by the ties that are Rutgers'.
